Accessing Gallery Effects From the Apple Menu Under System 7.0
The Gallery Effects DA is not available under System 7.0. If you want to have access to the Gallery Effects application under the Apple menu, place the Gallery Effects application in the Apple Menu Items folder; or make an alias of the Gallery Effects application and place the alias in the Apple Menu Items folder. To make an alias, select the Gallery Effects application while in the Finder and choose Make Alias from the File menu.
Making Stationery Pad Files
Under System 7.0, to make a Gallery Effects document into a stationery pad file, select the document while in the Finder and choose Get Info from the File menu. Click the Stationery pad checkbox. When opening stationery pad files, they open as untitled documents therefore leaving the original untouched.

Folders in GE Pouch Folder are Installed into the Effects Menu
When opening the Gallery Effects application or the DA, all folders which are in the same folder as the GE Prefs file will be installed into the Effects menu. If an installed folder does not contain a SuperPaint version of the Gallery Effects plug-in filters, it will still be listed in the Effects menu, but the submenu corresponding to the folder will state No Modules in Folder. Thus, to keep the Effects menu of the Gallery Effects application and/or DA menu from listing such folders, the GE Pouch should only contain folders with the SuperPaint version of the plug-in filters.
To use the Gallery Effects SuperPaint filters that you installed in your SuperPaint 3.0 Pouch folder (SP Pouch), you must locate the Classic Art SP folder with Gallery Effects’ Locate Effects command. Alternatively, if you place the GE Prefs file in the SuperPaint Pouch, all folders will be installed into the Effects menu of Gallery Effects when Gallery Effects is opened.

Opening PICT Files
When Gallery Effects cannot determine the color depth and DPI of a PICT file, the file will open at Gallery Effects’ default document—32-bits at 72 DPI.
Pasting 8-bit Images into a Gallery Effects Document
When pasting an image into a Gallery Effects document, it replaces the image currently in the document. If the document into which you are pasting is an 8-bit document and the pasted image is an 8-bit image, a dialog box will appear recommending that you use the New command to create a new document so as to preserve the colors of the pasted image. If, however, you paste into the current document, the colors of the pasted image may become distorted.

Printing 16 or 32-bit Images Requires LaserWriter 6.1 Driver or Later
Printing 16 or 32-bit images requires LaserWriter driver version 6.1 or later. Using an earlier version of the LaserWriter driver, will cause the image to print as an 8-bit color image on a color printer or as an 8-bit grayscale image on a black and white printer. (The color information in the open document will not be affected.)

How to Use the Aldus Gallery Effects Filters in Photoshop 1.0 and 2.0:
1. Open Photoshop and open or create a new document.
2. If you want to apply the effect to a portion of the image, select a portion of the image.
3. If you are in Photoshop 1.0, choose a filter from the Filter submenu in the Image menu. If you are in Photoshop 2.0, choose a filter from the Gallery Effects, Vol 1 submenu in the Filter menu.
If the Image menu or Filter menu is dimmed, the image is probably in Indexed color mode. If the image is a color image, choose RGB Color from the Mode menu; if the image is a gray-scale image, choose Gray Scale from the Mode menu. The Image menu or Filter menu should be active. Now, repeat step 3. The settings dialog box for the chosen effect appears.
